about

Monica about this song:

I was staring at a beautiful piece of art in my living room, created by a friend of mine. The more I stared at it, the more intensely I felt it’s meaning. In this case, the words just came flowing out of me – and a song about betrayal – the kind of betrayal that is inevitable: the betrayal of our youth, our passions and our dreams by the realities brought to us by life, by the passage of time and the destruction that can happen when our needs bump up against the needs of the people we love.

lyrics

Lyrics:

Silent She comes
To the red room with the mirror on the door
And her name is Constance, no more

Silent She comes
When our eyes close but the blankets are down
And her name is Constance, no more

We hide, though we see it like it is
We hide, though we see it like it is

Silent She comes
When the night falls but the curtain's not drawn
And her name is Constance, no more

Silent She comes
Like a prophet, like a storm on the calm
And her name is Constance, no more

We hide, though we feel it like it is
We hide, though we feel it like it is

Silent She comes
With her fortunes, with her omens and smiles

Silent She comes
With her beauty, with her potions and vials
Constance, no more

Silent She comes
Like a specter, like a shadow too soon
And She comes through the mirror on the door of our room
Constance, no more

We hide, though we see it like it is
We hide, though we see it like it is
We hide, though we feel it like it is
We hide, though we feel it like it is
