This was based on a true story told to me by an old friend. He had lost a good friend to cancer and was living in Rome soon after. He was told about a psychic named Vera Chiesa, which means “true church” in Italian, who lived in the city of Turin and he made a point of visiting her. She told him that in a few years his friend who had passed would return to him as a three-year-old child. Some years later a woman and a 3 year old boy showed up at his home. She told my friend they had been to see Vera Chiesa, and that he would know her son. He invited them in and decided to use the method of testing that they use for the Dalai Lama – putting out a series of objects and watching which he was drawn to. The child picked up all of his friends things and left the rest on the floor. I turned it into a love story between a man and a woman – everything else remains true to the original story.

Lyrics:
The air was ripe with the city’s ancient artistry
the night I went to see
the witch of Turin, Italy
She said he’s soon to be born another entity
She said he’d come to me
a second time a boy of three
She spoke about the man that I was
meant to marry
She spoke about the man who’s love
I always carry
Vera Chiesa, Vera Chiesa
His body was taken but his soul is reborn
Vera Chiesa, Vera Chiesa
His body was taken but his soul is reborn
Before he left me we lived in Central Italy
Before he left me we shared a
million secrecies
A thousand kisses as the sun was
setting amber
A thousand thoughts
I try often to remember
Years beyond our prime the moths
came to the flame
For years beyond our fears
the cancer had its way
It makes you beg for answers
Vera Chiesa, Vera Chiesa
His body was taken but his soul is reborn
Vera Chiesa, Vera Chiesa
His body was taken but his soul is reborn
Four years passed and quite by chance
or so it seemed
A woman made her way to me with
her son of three
They had also been
to see the witch of Turin, Italy
who spoke to them of my lost love
now his soul she sees
I lay before the boy all his things I’d kept
The way they prove the
Dalai Lama in Tibet
He clutched them to his heart
Vera Chiesa, Vera Chiesa
His body was taken but his soul is reborn
Vera Chiesa, Vera Chiesa
His body was taken but his soul is reborn
