Most of my songs either start from a personal feeling and move to include a more macro/social point of view – or vice-versa. I don’t remember what got me writing this song, but it was just after the bridge collapse in Minneapolis. Nationally, the infrastructure was collapsing all around us. On a more personal level, I was coping with my own problems with infrastructure. My partner, Tom, had recently been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and we were completely unprepared to deal with it – financially and emotionally. I was very deeply feeling the contrast between what is supposed to be, how we want it to be and how things actually turn out.
lyrics
Lyrics:
Bridges are falling, my savior's not calling,
Something appalling could happen today
Caught in the traffic, the wrong demographic,
I guess I could laugh or I could just go away
There was a time when I walked in the light
When I walked in the light, I walked in the light
I was a dreamer, a sure-footed schemer
A devil, redeemer, an angel in flight
Now I'm Waiting
Dark night on a lonely road
Tail lights show me where to go
I won't fight, I won't pretend to know
Dark night, show me where to go
Hours keep passing, I'm chasing the last thing
What's really happening? What's happening?
Every thing's beeping, it’s flashing or speaking
Attention-seeking, what does it mean?
When I was younger there was a hunger
An urge and a wonder, a fear and delight
Life was a stage and I was a player
Not just some tax-payer with no end in sight
(Chorus)
Everything's burning but nobody's learning
We twist and we turn and we clutch and we slide
Faster and faster, avoiding disaster
No question, no answer, no spirit, no guide
When I was younger there was a hunger
An urge and a wonder, a fear and delight
All I could see, the earth and the trees
I could believe in truth and in light
(Chorus)
